About the watch
Since its creation, Audemars Piguet has used the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar as a testing ground for exploring different combinations of metals and dial designs, pushing the boundaries of traditional design. This piece with a "plain" grey dial perfectly embodies this innovative philosophy.
The dial features all the traditional indications of a perpetual calendar: day, date, astronomical moon phase and month. It features the original luminescent baton hands and luminescent indexes. The recessed subdials add depth and texture, while the "Audemars Piguet" signature is the modern version adopted towards the end of the millennium.
The main feature that distinguishes it from all other Royal Oaks is the absence of AP's classic "Tapisserie" workmanship, in favor of a completely smooth dial. The stainless steel case and bracelet are finely finished with beveled and polished edges, contrasting with the brushed surface. The case has a diameter of 39 mm and a thickness of 9.3 mm.
This Royal Oak Quantième Perpétuel is powered by the AP caliber 2120/2802, derived from Jaeger-LeCoultre’s legendary ultra-thin JLC 920 caliber, also adopted by Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. The ultra-thin automatic caliber 2120/2800 features 38 jewels, a Gyromax balance, and four ruby wheels to support the full-diameter rotor, which runs on a beryllium guide for added stability. The AP caliber 2120 is considered one of the most technically refined wristwatch movements ever made.
