About the watch
Prized by collectors for its classic approach to watchmaking, Vacheron Constantin represents pure tradition in the art of watchmaking, thanks to its vintage aesthetic, its design inspired by history and its traditionalist vision of mechanics. The Les Historiques Chronograph Ref. 47101 perfectly embodies this spirit.
In the 1990s, watchmaking experienced a significant revival, emerging from the shadow of the quartz crisis. This period, now known as the "neo-vintage" era, marked the return to popularity of high-quality mechanical watches.
The Vacheron Constantin Historiques Chronograph Ref. 47101 in 18K yellow gold was launched in 1989 as part of the Historiques collection, a tribute to the vintage chronographs of the 1940s and 1950s, in particular the famous Ref. 4178.
The silver guilloché dial of the Ref. 47101 is a masterpiece of design, with two gold-rimmed subdials indicating the running seconds at 9 o’clock and the 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. The tachymeter scale on the edge of the dial does not compromise legibility, thanks to the 18K yellow gold indexes and Arabic numerals that contrast beautifully with the silver dial.
Looking at the images, it is clear that the Ref. 47101 is an elegant and refined chronograph. The transparent caseback reveals the Vacheron Cal. 1140 movement, based on the legendary Lemania Cal. 2310, with 21 jewels, self-compensating Breguet hairspring, swan-neck regulator and adjusted in 5 positions. The movement shows the complex architecture and high-quality finishing characteristic of Vacheron.
The 36 mm case sits beautifully on the wrist. The teardrop lugs enhance the presence of the case, making it perfectly proportioned and comfortable. The exceptional design and balanced proportions make the Ref. 47101 an irresistible watch for everyday use.
